BSPort Racing Aston Martin Claims 2nd in GT4 America Pro-Am Championship

Indy-2021-Race-1-Podium

Incredible final round of SRO America GT4 at the Brickyard as the #15 BSPort Racing claims 2nd in the Pro-Am Championship!

After a stellar qualifying by both Kenton Koch and Bryan Putt in the #15 Aston Martin, we lost our valuable starting positions due to a small deficit in ride height – coming in just 1mm too low. With a single tech inspection after our two qualifying sessions, that meant we lost all qualifying times and would start from the back of the large GT4 grid for both races.

We had nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Let the show begin!

In Race 1, Bryan made a brilliant start, avoiding a few spinning cars on the opening lap and making it to the bumper of the string of Pro-Am class cars. With a great restart after a short safety car, Bryan continued to move forward, getting up to P7 in class as we neared the mandatory pit stop window.

A smooth stop and driver change allowed us to gain a few positions as Kenton took over. We left the pits 14 seconds down on the class leader, 10 seconds to P2, and right behind our challenger for 2nd place in the championship. Lap after lap, Kenton threw down fast laps as he carved through the field, making it all the way up to P2, just 3 seconds behind the class leader. “Kenton took over and put on a driving clinic few have seen before.” – Erik Petersen, Engineer.

From last to 2nd place in Race 1! The drive of the year… or so we thought heading into Race 2.

Race 2 started with mixed conditions of rain and mist on a track notorious for poor water drainage. We again started on the last row, but this time with the additional challenge of a damp track off line and muddy puddles at the curbing. Kenton avoided mayhem at the start as he focused ahead, passing his competitors as he came up to the. He took the #15 BSPort Racing Aston Martin all the way from the back to P2 overall in the 34 minutes leading to our mandatory pit stop.

We executed a safe stop, making sure not to fall foul of the mandatory pit time and sent Bryan out P2 in class and overall, with 24 minutes remaining. Fully focused on the championship, he put his head down and drove a safe run to the finish. Bryan brought us home P3 in class for Race 2 and solidified P2 in the drivers and the teams championship!

Post Race Update: Due to a post-race inspection issue on the class winner, we finished P2 for Race 2!

We are so incredibly proud of our BSPort Racing Team! Huge thank you to every one of our team members: Erik, Data Dan, Kevin, Dan, Bob, Dani, Kenton and Bryan, plus our friends, family and many others showing us support and encouragement. 2nd in the championship in just our second year as a team is absolutely amazing and unexpected.

As we prepare for the next season, we have just one goal: Overall Champions. We’ll see you in 2022!
